Forever Ahoying

Description: Forever Ahoying is an endless runner game where the player must guide a ship to avoid obstacles and collect treasure. This project was made as a group project in Game Design Experience (CPMP 120) at UCSC.

Role: Artist

My Contributions:

  • Created all visual assets using Adobe Illustrator

  • Worked with programmers to optimize assets.

  • Brainstormed design concepts and prototyped ideas.

Specifics: After communicating with the team about the specifications of what they wanted, I used Adobe Illustrator to create a wide range of visual assets, including menus, in-game UI, and sprites. I maintained a consistent theme to match the vision we had for the game while also TO BE CONTINUED.

Lessons Learned: Although I’m not usually an artist, this project provided valuable insight into the artist’s side of game development. My understanding of artist’s needs and how to communicate most effectively with them has improved tremendously. For example, communicating about specific file formats, how the assets should be modularized, and having a mutual understanding of the time frames of assets are all crucial for efficiently working with an artist.
